Joshua Upin maintains a diverse practice which encompasses both complex litigation and transactional matters. His areas of concentration are commercial litigation, real estate, and business law.
Mr. Upin has extensive experience representing individual and institutional clients in federal and state courts, at both the trial and appellate levels, in real estate related litigation, civil RICO cases, regulatory compliance matters, and contract disputes. In recent years he has developed particular expertise in real estate tax assessment law, having prosecuted over one hundred tax assessment appeals for owners of real estate in Philadelphia County, following the City’s 2014 tax assessment reform known as the Actual Value Initiative. In addition to tax assessment appeal work, Mr. Upin advises individual property owners and developers on zoning and land use matters, including representation before the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment. This is in addition to advising real estate clients more generally with respect to sales, acquisitions, leasing, financing & development, construction permitting, and environmental compliance issues.
