Michael J. Shavel is of counsel in the firm's New Jersey office concentrating his practice on bankruptcy, reorganizations and workouts, debt and equity restructuring, banking, commercial, industrial, real estate and public debt transactions, including loan structuring and restructuring, debtor in possession financing, intercreditor relationship, lender liability prevention and defense, representing institutional lenders, tender groups, creditors, plan of reorganization proponents and asset purchasers.

Additionally, Mr. Shavel has an active practice in the areas of commercial lending, healthcare receivable financing, asset based financing, secured transactions primarily representing banks, commercial finance companies and other institutional lenders.

Prior to joining Spector Gadon & Rosen, Mr. Shavel was an associate in the Business Restructuring and Bankruptcy departments of Blank Rome, LLP. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Mr. Shavel received his undergraduate degree from Drew University with majors in History and Political Science; his J.D. is from Ohio Northern University where he graduated with distinction.
